Your wedding invitation ensemble is an elaborate collection of cards and envelopes designed to convey your wedding message beautifully and efficiently. Select each piece of the ensemble to give your invitation a look and meaning in keeping with your ceremony.

Your invitation ensemble will include some or all of the following:
Invitations    Envelopes    Reception Cards
Response Cards    Enclosures    Announcements

Invitations

The invitation itself contains the bulk of the wedding information. This document introduces the wedding couple and their sponsors. The invitation also provides the date and time of the ceremony and its location. Information concerning the reception may also be included; however, space is limited and a more detailed description is best placed on a reception card. Any restrictions may also be noted on the invitation such as "No photographs during ceremony," or "No gifts please." The standard length on an invitation is 14 lines.

Envelopes

Traditionally, your ensemble includes a set of inner and outer envelopes. The outer envelope serves as a mailing vehicle while the inner envelope protects the invitation and denotes parties of invitation. For added elegance these envelopes may be enhanced with colored linings and foil seals. Printed return addresses are also available to alert you to those friends and family who may not have received your wonderful news.

Reception Cards

Like the invitation, the reception card provides vital information, such as the time and location of the event. The reception card is enclosed in the invitations of select guests and does not require an individual envelope.

Response Cards

Response cards accompany reception cards in the invitation and play an essential role in the efficient planning of your wedding. Response cards are returned to you by those guests who will be attending the reception providing an estimation of the number of guests you must plan for. These response cards usually denote a desired response date and include printed return envelopes to insure quick returns and accurate results.

Enclosures

Enclosures are those cards enclosed within the wedding invitation. These small cards provide more detailed information than available on the invitation itself. In addition to reception and response cards, other types of enclosures include dance cards, within the ribbons or pew cards, and map cards.

Dance cards are used to invite selected guests to the dance portion of the wedding celebration. Often, this card is used if the wedding reception must be small while the ensuing dance may accomodate more guests.

Within the ribbon or pew cards are used primarily in large ultra formal weddings. Pew cards are included in the invitations of guests of distintion such as close family members and special friends. These guests present their cards upon arrival at the ceremony to receive their special "within the ribbon" front row seating.

Map cards are enclosed in the invitations of out-of-town guests who may have difficulty finding your wedding ceremony or reception site. These cards illustrate the easiest routes to your location from all major highways. A hand printed diagram may detract from the beauty and style of your invitation ensemble, while professionally produced map cards uphold your high standards for elegance.

Announcements

If your wedding is small or private you may wish to send announcements to friends and family members you are unable to invite to the ceremony. You may also send announcements to those who are unable to attend your marriage celebration. Announcements are sent immediately following the wedding and include the time and location of the ceremony. An "at home card" may accompany the announcement to inform friends and family of your new address.
